Nick Thomas-Symonds MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, visited Hampshire last week to launch a major new crime policy in advance of the local elections on the 6th May 2021.
Visiting Southampton Itchen, Nick met the Labour and Co-operative Police and Crime Commissioner candidate Tony Bunday, the leader of the council Christopher Hammond, and other local candidates Eamonn Keogh (Peartree) and Amanda Ford (Coxford).
A Labour government will put more police into our communities, create a new victim’s Law, and end cuts to preventative services. Under the Conservatives, serious crime has risen while the response has fallen. Violent crime is up by 116%, while the number of people being charged has fallen by 26%. People no longer feel safe in their communities. A new approach is desperately needed.
Tony Bunday, Labour’s Police and Crime Commissioner said; “I was really pleased to be able to work with Nick to get our message across to local communities. The Conservatives have not only de-funded police across the country, but also made our police local service the worst funded in the country. They have no new ideas to tackle the deep problems that our communities face. PCC elections within Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight offer a simple choice between them and a Labour candidate, who will fight tirelessly for a fair share of police resources. I have the professional knowledge and experience to bring fresh and effective strategies to fight crime and anti-social behaviour. I believe we need fair, effective, and responsive policing for all our communities”.
