As a candidate this is a pledge I am very happy to support.

We MUST properly fund our Schools so that every child gets the chance to fulfil their potential in life.

It is morally right to do so, but also by underfunding schools, we are stopping so much talent from being nurtured.  The next life changing invention, the cure for an illness, the technology that allows us to settle on Mars, could all come from children within our classrooms.

But these creative minds could never be truly realised if our young people don’t have the right books, enough teachers and support staff, or access to enough classes to work out what they want to do with their lives.

I am a BIG believer in education and I went to school during the last Labour government.  I experienced the investment that we had in our future with new computers, team building days, extra books, and really good support staff (I didn’t know at the time that I had dyslexia, so sometimes just needed a bit more help!).

I went to 6th form college wanting to become a lawyer,  so I picked relevant subjects including Criminal Law to study.  However, I changed my mind whilst there because I got involved some in the extra circular activities that my college offered.  They embraced my creative, problem solving nature, and the experience pushed me into an industry which ultimately brought me around to politics.

We need to properly fund ALL our subjects, so that everyone gets the opportunity to work out what they want to do, and can then prosper.

Yes it will cost, but in my view will truly be an investment in our countries future.  Surely as financial decisions go, its a no brainier!

I don’t want to tell any child that we couldn’t help them reach their potential in the classroom because one of the strongest economies in the world wouldn’t fund them… Do you?

Please consider education when voting this Thursday.

Matt Bunday – Meon Valley Parliamentary Candidate.
