Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Meon Valley in the general election has pledged his support to help Clanfield Sports and Community Centre if he is elected on Thursday.
Matt Bunday visited the vibrant community hub during his day of campaigning on Saturday 7th December and met staff and users of the centre, including its trustee Terry Collins. Matt toured the building and saw its huge potential. The centre, with a large sports hall (setup for indoor inflatables at the time!), a meeting room, a dance studio, and a large café area, has only been open just over a year. It already has extensive community use with further potential. Recently, it has just started to work with schools in the area to use its car park as a ‘park and stride’ for school children and parents. It is hosting special events for the community. It will also be a polling station for the election this Thursday. However, as a community resource, it is clear that there is a lot more that needs to be done in order to secure its long-term future, and to fully utilise it as a community asset.
Matt has pledged his support if elected. He said ‘Community hubs like this are so important to our communities. A safe space where people can pursue their hobbies and interests, find friends, keep fit, and engage with the wider community is just amazing. I would absolutely be keen to see how I could support this community centre more if elected to parliament. The staff here are working so hard to build up something, but do need a bit of help to take it to the next level, and to future proof it for the benefit of the community.’
Clanfield Sports and Community Centre is located off Green Lane on Endal Way in Clanfield PO8 OYF. Their website is https://clanfieldscc.com/, they are open 7 days a week and have free parking.
The general election is Thursday 12th December, with the polls open 7am until 10pm.
