Dear Comrades, during the election period we are not able to hold our usual general or business meetings and all energies switch instead to campaigning. We do hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join campaign activities in our local area of Meon Valley to underline the need for a Labour Government to be in power, to see a genuine fight for an end to austerity, for a fairer, greener society and to find the most democratic and collaborative outcome we can to the critical issue of Brexit.

Communication: We will keep you updated with regular emails and we will also be posting those same updates onto our CLP website www.meonvalleylabour.org.uk and our CLP Facebook page. Our key campaigning events will also be posted onto the Labour Party website Events Page – which you can access via the Labour Party Membersnet.

Contact details: If you need any more information or have questions you can reply to our usual email address (MeonValleyCLP@outlook.com) or contact the committee by phone on : 01489 896717, or post a question or comment onto our Meon Valley CLP Facebook page.

Our Parliamentary candidate for Meon Valley CLP: We are now undertaking the shortlisting process (which is led by the Regional Office). Once that is done we will be able to confirm and introduce you to our prospective candidate next week. We will be getting a local Meon Valley CLP leaflet printed up for a mail shot to go to all homes across the constituency. Our chair June Kershaw will be leading that work. Our funds locally will need to be supported and so I will be sending round in the next newsletter an update from Paul our Treasurer on how donations can be made to assist our local campaigning work.

Street campaign events in Meon Valley: These have been enjoyable and successful in recent election campaigns. They are a chance to talk with local people to find out what is important to them, including local issues and national issues. We have lots of Labour Party leaflets to give out and positive messages to share from the Labour Party manifesto https://labour.org.uk/manifesto/ . Do come and join us. If you would like to chat over what this involves give us a call – generally local people are happy to chat and glad to find that the Labour Party locally is interested in their issues.

Lending support to neighbouring CLPs: Although our main focus will be our local campaign events, Labour HQ will let us know which neighbouring CLP (most likely one of the Southampton Constituencies) we should support if we have any spare capacity to go out door knocking or delivering leaflets – it will be a constituency where they have a really good chance of winning and need some extra feet on the ground. As soon as that it confirmed and we have details of events we will let you know.

Campaign Speaker event in Winchester on 21 November: This event which is being hosted by the Winchester CLP is going ahead as planned on 21 Nov (7:30pm start) as it is a campaign event. The Southampton Itchen parliamentary candidate Simon Letts will be speaking about successful campaigning at St Lawrence Parish Hall, Colebrook Street, SO23 9LH. If you would like a lift or to car share please reply to this email.
